We use the Past Simple to talk about an action that happened in the past.
Peter didn't visit his granny last month. (negative)
Regular verbs
➤Verb+ed
want → wanted work → worked
➤Verb, ending in – e+d
dance → danced live → lived
➤Verbs, ending in consonant+y: y → i + ed
cry → cried try → tried
➤A verb ending in one vowel+consonant: double the consonant when the last syllable of the word is accented.
stop → stopped travel → travelled not in: visit → visited

REMEMBER:
Los verbos que en presente terminan en "y" con consonante anterior cambian la "y" por "i" antes de añadir "ed".
Ej: cry - cried
Los que terminan en "y" pero tienen vocal anterior sólo añaden "ed".
